"Potrero Power" is a stunning panoramic photograph capturing the raw beauty of San Francisco’s Potrero Generating Station, bathed in the tones of sunset. The result is a high-resolution image scanned at an incredible 212 megapixels, offering exceptional clarity, depth, and detail. The scanning slit rotational panoramic camera rotates as light records onto the internal rotating film drum. Depending on whether subjects are moving against or with the camera's rotation, people or objects may appear stretched or compressed. Also, in rotational panoramic photography, the phenomenon where straight horizontal lines appear curved is due to the cylindrical perspective inherent in this imaging technique. As the camera rotates, it captures a wide field of view, projecting the three-dimensional scene onto a two-dimensional plane. This projection causes horizontal lines, especially those above or below the lens axis, to curve inward or outward, while vertical lines remain straight. This effect is a natural consequence of mapping a wide-angle view onto a flat surface. This photograph was taken using medium format black and white negative film and scanned with a drum scanner to the high resolution of 212 megapixels, resulting in incredibly sharp detail.
